I had
the good fortune to represent the city of Marysville at the
recent Torch of Freedom event at Riverfront Park. This event
was organized by members of the Disabled American Veterans
Chapter No. 9. I would like to congratulate the members of the
DAV and all of those involved on a job well done.
The purpose of this event was to recognize and honor our World
War II veterans. It was such a wonderful concept and long
overdue.
There were a number of WWII veterans at the event, and it was
a true honor to meet them and listen to their sometimes
harrowing accounts of their experiences. We could all take a
lesson from the courage and determination that these brave
Americans displayed in defending this great nation. What we
are as a nation is the result of the sacrifices made by these
incredible men and women.
The Disabled American Veterans association should be very
proud of their efforts. The planning for such an event is a
difficult task indeed and requires a huge commitment by those
involved. Kudos to all of the members of the DAV as well as
those World War II veterans who so generously shared their
memories with us.
